Custom Souvenirs in Bali: 3D Printing for Small Businesses
Custom souvenirs in Bali don't have to be ordered by the hundred. With 3D printing, a small business can start with five or ten pieces, see how customers respond, and add more if they sell. There is no mold to make first and no minimum of hundreds of units — our 3D printing service takes orders from IDR 100,000.
This article is for café and shop owners, studios, event organizers, and anyone who wants merchandise with their own design in small quantities. We cover what can be made, which material fits, how pricing works, and when it's actually cheaper to switch to silicone molding.
Why 3D Printing Suits Custom Souvenirs
The usual ways to produce souvenirs — injection molding, mass screen printing — all need a mold or an expensive initial setup. That cost only makes sense spread across hundreds or thousands of units. For a small business trying out a single design, that's a big risk.
3D printing flips the logic. The cost of an order comes almost entirely from material and machine time, not from tooling. As a result:
Start small. One, five, twenty — all fine. There is no minimum quantity, only a minimum order of IDR 100,000.
Change the design any time. A misspelled name, a new logo color, a new version for the next event — edit the file, no new mold needed.
Every unit can be different. Guest names, table numbers, color variants — all printed in one batch; adjusting the file is usually quick.
The weakness is just as clear: machine time per unit doesn't drop much as quantity rises. At some point another method becomes cheaper — more on that below.
What Can Be Made
Some of the orders we handle most often for local businesses in Bali:
Keychains with a name or business logo. The most popular, because they're small, light, and cheap per piece. Logos can be raised, recessed, or two-tone.
Small signs and table displays. Café table numbers, menu markers, business card holders, QRIS payment stands. Functional, and branded at the same time.
Event souvenirs. Weddings, company gatherings, shop openings, community anniversaries. Usually a few dozen pieces of one design with the event name or date.
Small figures and toys for resale. Business mascots, original characters, product miniatures. For fine detail like faces or textures, we print in SLA resin.
What we can't do: licensed characters (film, game, or other companies' intellectual property) without the rights holder's permission. The design has to be yours or free for commercial use.
Which Material Fits
For souvenirs, three materials cover most orders:
PLA — the standard choice. A clean surface, usually the most economical, and the colors most often in stock. Right for keychains, table displays, and souvenirs used indoors.
PETG — stronger and more heat-resistant than PLA. Pick it when the item is handled often, taken outdoors, or kept somewhere hot. For outdoor use in direct sun, we recommend ASA.
SLA resin — for fine detail: small figures, intricate logo relief, textures. Smoother surface than FDM, but more brittle and usually more expensive.
On color: our stock rotates because we keep one spool per color, but black is almost always available, and color doesn't change the price as long as the material is the same. If the color has to match a logo exactly, ask about stock before sending the file.

How Pricing Works
A 3D print is priced by material weight, machine time, and finishing — not directly by unit count. We've covered what drives the price separately. For souvenirs, three things matter most:
Size and thickness. A 3 mm keychain uses far less material than a 6 mm one and prints faster. Thin, hollowed designs save money without looking cheap.
Quantity per batch. When ten pieces print together, there's one setup and a full printer bed. The price per piece drops compared with printing one at a time — not because each print is faster, but because the setup happens once. That's why we suggest fixing the quantity up front rather than adding one or two pieces at a time.
Whether a design exists yet. If you already have a 3D file (STL, OBJ, 3MF, or STEP), there's no design fee. If you only have a logo or a sketch, we model it at IDR 150,000 per hour (one hour minimum) — a simple keychain is usually done within the first hour.
Large orders get a discount: 5% above IDR 3,000,000 and 7% above IDR 5,000,000. We don't list per-piece prices here because every design is different — send the file and we'll send an estimate on WhatsApp.
When to Switch to Silicone Molding
There's a point where printing one at a time stops making sense: when you need hundreds of identical pieces.
At that point, we 3D print a single master, then make a silicone mold from it. Once the mold exists, every additional copy is far faster and cheaper than reprinting. The process is explained in our silicone molding article.
The limits: making the mold itself takes 2–5 days and has an upfront cost. The exact break-even depends on the size and shape of the item. Tell us the quantity you need and we'll price both options.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the minimum order quantity?
There's no minimum number of units. The minimum order value is IDR 100,000.
Can one design carry different names?
Yes. As long as the base shape is the same, changing the name or number on each unit takes only a little file editing — send the list of variants when you ask for an estimate.
I only have a logo as an image. Can you make it?
Yes. Send the logo at the best resolution you have (vector is better). We model it in 3D at IDR 150,000 per hour, one hour minimum.
Can the result be painted or have more than one color?
Two colors in one print are possible for certain designs, such as a raised logo in a different color from its base. For more complex color work, painting is done by hand — mention it when asking for an estimate.

Print one sample first — for orders of dozens or more, we recommend a single piece first so color, size, and detail can be checked in person before the whole batch prints (a single sample is still subject to the IDR 100,000 minimum order).
Batch production. Once the sample is approved, the rest prints together.
