3D Printing Cost in Bali: How We Price It

The question we get most on WhatsApp isn't about materials or printers. It's "how much?". The honest answer: we don't have a per-gram rate. Every order is priced as one package, because two parts of the same weight can need very different machine time and hand work. This article explains how we work out 3D printing cost in Bali, what goes into that number, and lists every figure that is fixed: minimum order, deposit, discounts, design rate, and delivery costs in Bali.
3D Printing Cost Is per Order, Not per Gram
Many people assume 3D printing cost = weight × a per-gram rate. At 3D Lab Bali it doesn't work that way, for a practical reason: a keychain and a bracket of the same weight can need very different FDM machine time, because the bracket's shape calls for supports and a trickier orientation. Same weight, different cost.
For every order we count four components:
Material and machine time — how long the printer runs, and which material it uses. Usually the largest share.
Design time, only if there is no 3D file yet. If you already have an STL, OBJ, 3MF or STEP file, this component is zero.
Finishing, if requested — sanding, primer, paint, assembly. A raw print straight off the machine is the cheapest option.
Delivery by courier or freight, if you don't collect from our Jimbaran workshop.
That is why we always ask for the file (or photos plus dimensions) before naming a number. Not to dodge the question — without them, any figure is a guess.
The Numbers That Are Fixed
These don't change from order to order:
Minimum order IDR 100,000 per order. No minimum quantity — we'll make a single piece.
50% deposit for orders above IDR 300,000. The job enters the queue once the deposit is received.
Volume discounts: 5% on totals above IDR 3,000,000, 7% above IDR 5,000,000. Above IDR 10,000,000 we discuss pricing directly. These discounts don't stack with other promotions.
3D modelling: IDR 150,000 per hour, one-hour minimum, then billed per half hour. A simple keychain with a logo is usually done within the first hour.
Quotes go out within 1–4 hours of receiving your file or photos, during working hours (Mon–Fri, 10 AM–5 PM WITA).
Colour doesn't change the price within the same material. Stock rotates because we keep one spool per colour; black is almost always available.
What Pushes the Price Up or Down
Size. A bigger object means more material and longer machine time. The limits: PLA and PETG up to 40 × 40 × 40 cm; ABS, ASA, TPU and fibre-filled materials up to 25 × 25 × 25 cm. Larger is still possible — printed in sections and joined — but that adds hand work.
Infill. Almost nothing needs to be printed solid. The inside is usually filled at 15–20% with a hollow lattice pattern, and that is enough for most parts. If you don't specify, we pick a sensible infill for the part's job. Ask for 100% solid only if the part carries real load — it can double the price.
Supports. Overhanging features need temporary support structures. That's extra material, extra time, and the work of removing and cleaning up the marks. Sometimes rotating the model is enough to avoid them — we check that before printing.
FDM or resin. Filament (FDM) is more economical and suits functional parts. Resin (SLA) is for fine detail under a millimetre — figurines, jewellery, dental models — and costs more because of the material and post-processing (washing, manual support removal, UV curing). Timing differs too: small FDM parts take 1–2 hours of machine time, large ones 4–6 hours; resin takes 2–3 days from print to ready.
Quantity. Ten pieces printed together cost less per piece than ten separate orders — one setup, one full bed. For dozens or more of the same design there are two options we can price: print them all, or print one master and make a silicone mould. Making the mould takes 2–5 days, and past a certain quantity it's the cheaper route.
Finishing. Sanding, primer, paint and assembly are hand work priced separately, and they add to the lead time. If the part is functional rather than decorative, skip it — layer lines don't get in the way of anything.
Delivery Costs in Bali
Collecting from our workshop at Perum Gading Kencana No.SH-10, Jimbaran, is free. We don't run our own delivery — shipping goes by courier or freight. Courier rates by area in Bali:

Kuta — IDR 90,000
North Kuta (Canggu, Kerobokan) — IDR 150,000

For small parts we can check regular freight — it is often cheaper. We also ship anywhere in Bali and to other islands — the cost follows the freight rate to your address, and we include it with the quote.
What We Need to Send a Quote

The 3D file (STL, OBJ, 3MF, STEP), or if there isn't one yet, photos from several angles plus rough dimensions — length, width, thickness.
Quantity, even if it's an estimate.

When you need it. Most orders are done in 2–4 working days; if you need it faster, say so up front.

The Three Most Effective Ways to Pay Less
Send a file, not a photo. One hour of design (IDR 150,000) often costs more than the print itself for a small part. If the part exists on a 3D model marketplace, download it and send the file.
Combine orders. Several designs in one order still count as one minimum order, and often one setup.
Take it raw. No finishing, no delivery if you collect. For prototypes and functional parts, that's almost always the right call.
FAQ
Why isn't there a per-gram price?
Because weight doesn't reflect machine time or hand work. Two parts of the same weight can differ a lot in cost depending on shape, supports and finishing. Pricing per order is fairer for both sides.
Can I order just one piece?
Yes. Minimum order IDR 100,000 per order, no minimum quantity.
Does colour affect the price?
No, within the same material. The only thing to check is stock — name the colour you want when asking for a quote.
Do I have to pay up front?
For orders above IDR 300,000 we ask for a 50% deposit before the job enters the queue. Below that, you pay on collection.
